Comedian and radio host Rickey Smiley has put the internet in a research mode following an ambiguous tweet containing nothing else than a ticket link. Nothing more, nothing less, than tickets is likely to leave his fans guessing about what event this ticket could be for, as the content gave no indication whatsoever.

Since that, speculation has gone wild. Some say it is for an upcoming stand-up tour; others insist it’s his radio show that he is hinting at. The true irony is Smiley pulling that with no explanation; a troll move or an unintentional un-done tweet? It’s anybody’s guess.
At the moment of writing this, nothing is hotter than that tweet, and the entire world holds its breath since there are exactly zero replies to this tweet. Such vagueness from a celebrity usually invites an avalanche of questions in the comments. But here, we’ve got radio silence…weird? Perhaps everyone is too busy clicking on the link to stop and comment. Or the tweet is confusing that there is nothing to say about it.
The ticket link seems to open a legitimate ticketing website, but since there is no information to confirm the city or event, the final judgment of whether it is an exclusive pre-sale or a mere general announcement is still hanging there. Rickey is known for his unpredictable jokes; meaning this could as well be some sort of prank flying over everyone’s heads.
When one of these mega-celebrities drops a link with no explanations whatsoever, they are bound to attract attention. Even if no one really knows what is it they are paying attention to. It’s almost as if the lack of engagement on the tweet itself is probably more interesting than the tweet. Is that too getting shadowbanned? Is everybody seeing something else? Or maybe we’re just collectively scratching our heads too hard to type?
Such increasingly weird clues from celebrities who want to create hype have been the latest trend. The effectiveness of any strategy will depend completely on whether anyone putatively gets the message he is hinting at. In that area, the verdict is still out. Maybe Rickey will release more info soon, or maybe he’s just enjoying watching everyone try to make sense of a 2-word tweet. Either way, it has them buzzing, even if it is not indirectly in response to the tweet itself.

If you are going to announce ticket sales, maybe simply tell us what it’s for. Or maybe not- the bafflement might actually work in his favor. After all, that’s why we are writing about it, aren’t we? Well done, Rickey. Now, can someone please decipher what these tickets are for?
